Bob ♥️ Abishola: Review

Okay, I have been struggling with writing this review. I have watched the pilot at least five times and I keep flip-flopping. I love it, I hate it, love it, hate it. As much as I’ve flipped – I’ve written this post at minimum three times. You get the gist.

In short – Bob has a heart attack and is taken care of by a great nurse named Abishola. It’s love at first sight for him and only a patient for her.

Here are the facts. It’s a Chuck Lorre show…I mean hello it’s CBS and Chuck Lorre has a million year contract with them. It’s multi-cam. It’s a rom-com. It’s Chuck Lorre. Then it hit me. I don’t watch Chuck Lorre or much of CBS for that matter. I’m an avid ABC fan. That’s where my allegiance lies. Always has. I will ALWAYS volunteer as tribute for ABC.

I can’t sit here and say I detest Chuck…I just don’t like his writing style. I like Mom, but only when my mom watches it – irony? For the most part his jokes are cheep…mostly fat jokes like in Mike and Molly. Example of cheep joke – in the first 30 seconds of the show, Bob is being wheeled into the ER for a heart attack. His mom thinks it’s gas – laugh. They turn the corner and Bob says to wait. He sits up and passes gas. “Nope” – laugh. Like be funny…not cheep.

Anyway, there are some redeeming qualities for this show. The only cheep jokes are before the first commercial break. After that, Bob serves us some dad jokes aimed to melt Abishola’s heart…and it works. By the ending shot, she has smile on her face. Awww!

This show is human. It has heart…soul. Granted, Bob can at times be a tad stalker-ish, but I do think he has only the best intentions. Abishola is treated kind like she treats her patients. There is just something that I don’t like about it. From a technical stance is she, at times, lit awful? Is it simply the writing? Do I hate CBS? Allo f the above…no clue.

Here’s what I do know. Pilots aren’t given a chance anymore. If they aren’t getting the ratings within the first three to five episodes they cancel. Now, maybe Lorre has it in his contract that they will give him a full season order but on IMDb there are only five episodes listed. I do hope we at least get a fill season. It would be awful if this was a diamond in the rough that got taken to pasture prematurely.

As always, thanks for reading and if you watched the show let me know what you think below.
